I haven't been a fan of the phrase "self-care." It's not about taking care of the self that seems to be the issue but, I realize, it's the way the phrase sounds. It hasn't struck me as something enticing or fun to do. Instead, it sounds more like a chore, just another thing to take care of, and who really wants to do more chores?
Most of us are aware that taking care of ourselves is extremely important on so many levels - physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. It is one of the foundational pieces needed to creates a healthy relationship with your Self. And, the relationship you have with your Self affects E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G in your life. I even notice the difference in the way the words sound. Give it a try ... say 'self-care' and notice how the "r" ends more harshly. Then, say 'self-goodness' and notice how the "s" sound at the end is softer and actually makes your mouth smile. Right? |
