Fear is an invitation to succeed. This is a saying from one of my amazing psychotherapy & energy teachers. She offered the view that fear is an energy of movement. I’ve thought a lot about this again in the past months and I’ll share that with you in a bit.
Imagine a wall of fear. If we are behind it, it will stop or slow us from succeeding and moving forward. When the energy of fear stands in front of us, we find ourselves stuck, afraid to move forward and banging our head against the wall. However, if we choose to move ourselves out from behind the wall of fear and put ourselves in front of it, we can use that energy to drive us forward. When standing in front of the energy of fear, we step into our courage. Fear will always be there. It’s an important and automatic alert mechanism from our old reptilian brain that controls our fight or flight response. If fear is appropriate for the situation, we are ready to take action. However, if we allow fear to stop us from moving in a desired direction, to try new things, to step out of our comfort zone, then we also constrict our life because we limit our choices and our experiences. As an entrepreneur, I’ve noticed that my fear has skyrocketed in the past year. I was surprised at how fear was showing up in my new business life and how it’s been trying to stop me from doing what I love. One of these fears is starting a blog. To write about what I think, feel, to be authentic me and vulnerable, and put it out there provokes fear, anxiety, paralysis, and panic. Despite that, I’ve decided to stand in front of fear. I’m going to feel it, use it, and do it anyway. I offer you to have a look at the energy of fear in a different light. View fear as information and use its energy to help you move as fast or as slow you want. Decide for yourself when to move and when not to move. The key is to be in front of it. Please share your thoughts and how fear has impacted your life. ~ Michele
